Tokyo shares open lower on stronger yen

Tokyo shares opened lower on Friday with export-oriented issues hit by a stronger yen against the U.S. dollar.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 73.08 points, or 0.37 percent, from Thursday to 19,786.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 5.84 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,594.54.

Decliners were led by insurance, shipping and glass and ceramics issues. Endit
