Iraq's parliament bans IS, pro-terrorism websites

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iraqi parliament on Thursday passed a law that bans the websites of the Islamic State (IS) group and other media outlets that incite and justify terrorist crimes, a parliament official said.

"The parliament voted during today's session on a law that bans Daesh (IS group) websites and other websites that incite, glorify, promote or justify all terrorist crimes," the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The law was passed by a majority of 215 lawmakers who attended the regular session of the 328-seat parliament, the source said.

The ban will include the satellite channels which support and promote terrorism, the source added.

The banning came days after gunmen and suicide bombers went on a rampage through Paris, killing at least 129 people, making it the deadliest that struck on the French soil since World War II.

The attacks were claimed by the IS militant group, who are rampant in both Iraq and Syria. Endit
