Swedish defending champion Felix Rosenqvist grabbed provisional pole position for the 62nd Macau Grand Prix on Thursday, after dominating the first qualifying session.

Callum Ilott from Britain and Antonio Giovinazzi from Italy took the second and third places.

Rosenqvist moved to the top of the timesheets early on and, despite strong challenges from Ilott and Giovinazzi. He was able to keep his spot at the top throughout to end the session 0.822 seconds clear of his nearest rival.

He went quickest again to end the day with a best lap of two minutes 11.841 seconds.

"I'm pretty happy with that," said Rosenqvist, who won in Macau last year. "I think I've made a step forward in my driving this year and I've found the key to a good lap around here. The pace is looking good."

First run in 1954 as a club race for local motoring enthusiasts, the Macau Grand Prix has involved into what many believe is the finest street circuit race meeting in the world.

Recognized as the most internationally prestigious event on the local calender, the 62nd Macau Grand Prix, which comprises seven categories, is held from Nov. 19 to 22.  Endi
