Some 119 Cambodian workers at a South Korean-owned toy factory in southern Kandal province became ill on Thursday morning after they were exposed to pesticide that farmers used on their crops near the factory, a labor official said.
"Some 119 workers, including 4 males, at the PPNP Soya Toy factory had fatigue, dizziness and vomit after they smelt pesticide that farmers sprayed on their crops near the factory," Cheav Bunrith, spokesman for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), said.
He added that the victims had been sent to the provincial referral hospital and commune health center soon after the incident.
According to a NSSF report, nine of the victims are in critical condition.
The report said the factory, which produces all kinds of toys, has 227 employees in total. Enditem
