2nd LD Writethru: 9 injured in northern Afghan bomb attack

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

About nine civilians were wounded in a bomb attack near a police station in Afghanistan's northern province of Baghlan on Thursday, police said.

"An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attached to a motorcycle was detonated near the entrance of Baghlan-e-Markazi district police station at around 9:30 in the morning, causing nine people wounded," deputy provincial police chief, Abdul Rahid Bashir, told Xinhua.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Bashir said, adding that those in critical conditions will be transferred to be treated in the provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri.

The police personnel has launched a massive manhunt in the area to nab the culprits behind the attack, the source said.

Earlier on Thursday, five attackers and one army soldier were killed as well as six people were wounded when Taliban militants attacked an army base and the nearby police station in southern Kandahar province.

The Taliban had intensified attacks over the past months as the militant group tried to take territory and consolidate its positions ahead of winter in the country.

They urged civilians to stay away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers regarded as the legitimate targets by militants while warning people not to support the government. Enditem
