New Bond movie rules China's box office

Xinhua, November 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The new Bond movie "Spectre" starring Daniel Craig ruled China's box office in the week ending Nov. 15, earning 309 million yuan (48.5 million U.S. dollars) in its opening weekend.

Without any major competition, the 24th installment of the popular franchise grabbed several records in the world's second largest film market, including the biggest Friday opening and the biggest weekend earning for an imported 2D movie.

Domestic rom-com "Ex-Files 2," which was released on Nov. 6, came in at a respectable second place, earning 110 million yuan in the week, China Film News reported Thursday.

Action-thriller "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" grossed 52 million yuan to land in third.

Fourth place went to "Les Aventures d'Anthony," a domestic love story about a young man's overseas life. The film grossed 40.3 million after opening on Nov. 13.

Rounding out the top five was adventure film "Everest," which earned 24.6 million yuan in the week. The film was released Nov. 3. Endi
