Tokyo shares open higher on overseas gains, weak yen

Tokyo shares opened higher on Wednesday as market confidence was boosted by gains across overseas equity markets overnight and weak yen to the benefit of Japanese exporters.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 185.05 points, or 0.94 percent, from Tuesday to 19,815.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 11.41 points, or 0.72 percent, at 1,597.52.

Gainers were led by real estate, financing business and retail issues. Endit
