Namibia's Ambunda to defend IBO world title against Cooper from Australia

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibia's two-time world champion Paulus The Rock Ambunda will defend his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) World Super bantamweight title, when he trades leather with Australian boxer Jason Nugget Cooper in a fight pencilled for Dec. 5.

This will be Ambunda's first world title defence fight since he was crowned this year after beating Argentina's Leandro David Esperante. The fight will take place in Namibia's capital city, Windhoek at Ramatex.

The 24-year-old Nugget boasts of 17 fights under his belt, having 14 wins, two losses and one draw, while the much older and experienced Ambunda (35), has a record of 24 fights, 23 wins and a single draw.

In October at the Namibian Sports Commission annual sports awards ceremony, Ambunda was named Sportsman of the Year and also clinched Sports Achiever of the Year award.

Also to feature on the fight card is Immanuel Prince Naidjala (Namibia) the current WBA African champion, who will face former South African champion and current WBA Pan-Africa champion Toto Helebe.  Endit
