Brazil coach Dunga says position not threatened

Xinhua, November 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazil coach Dunga on Monday denied that his position was under threat after his team's poor start to the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The Selecao are currently fourth in the South American zone standings after three matches, their worst ever start to a qualifying campaign.

"Threatened? I don't know why," Dunga told a press conference ahead of the team's home clash against Peru at the Fonte Nova Arena on Tuesday.

"That's football. It's normal to feel pressure in any profession. You need results. Threatened is a strong word."

Despite his words, Dunga will know that failure to defeat Ricardo Gareca's team will lead to even closer scrutiny on his position.

Friday's 1-1 draw against Argentina in Buenos Aires followed a 2-0 loss to Chile and an unconvincing 3-1 victory over Venezuela in the first two qualifiers.

"We are at the beginning," Dunga said. "This will be a long and difficult campaign, like it always has been. We are concentrating on the present. But if you look at results from past qualifying campaigns, you'll see that it has never been easy." Endit
