Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Monday that he intended to go to Russia upon the invitation of President Vladimir Putin as his first foreign visit after the presidential election.
Lukashenko made the statement while meeting with Russian ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov, national news agency BelTA reported.
The Belarusian leader, who was elected for a fifth term in office last month with 83.47 percent of the votes, stressed he was ready for a sincere and serious conversation about bilateral relations with his Russian counterpart, the report said.
For his part, Surikov thanked the Belarusian president for accepting the invitation to go to the Russian Federation on a state visit.
"I think even if there are some rough spots in mutual relations between the two countries -- and there are always some, even in relations between the closest countries -- they will be addressed during the meeting and will find proper understanding," Surikov was quoted as saying. Endit
