Myanmar's union parliament resumes sessions

The 13th session of Myanmar's two-House Union Parliament resumed here on Monday, a week after the end of the country's Nov.8 general election.
Speaking at the opening session, Speaker of the Union parliament and House of Representatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann stressed performance of the country's remaining tasks in calmly and peaceful manner in cooperation with the government and the military during the post-election period.
The session raised discussions on additional state budget allotment bill for 2015-16 fiscal year among other remaining bills scheduled for complete adoption before the present term of the parliament expires on Jan. 30, 2016.
Prior to the Union Parliament session, that of the two Houses -- House of Representatives and House of Nationalities (Upper House) were also held on the same day.
The last 12th sessions of the Union Parliament , which lasted from Jan. 19 to Aug. 28, adopted 52 laws.
The current parliament, which was elected through 2010 general election, began its term in 2011. Endit
