Myanmar's parliament speaker vows to complete undertakings in remaining period of term

Speaker of Myanmar's House of Representatives (Lower House) U Shwe Mann on Monday vowed to continue undertaking parliamentary affairs and complete them in the remaining two-month period before the current term of the parliament expires.
Speaking at the resumed 13th session of the House of Representatives in Nay Pyi Taw, U Shwe Mann told the House that although some parliament members lost in the Nov. 8 general election and will not be included in the next term of the parliament, they should work dutifully, honestly and correctly in the parliament for the country and the people.
He called for paving way for the new parliament to serve the nation and the people more efficiently.
U Shwe Mann's speech was followed by the presentation of some amendment bills to be discussed in the House that include road transport-related bill, maritime-related bill and drug, liquor and opium-related bill.
On the same day, the 13th session of the House of Nationalities also started with Speaker of the House U Khin Aung Myint delivering the opening speech.
The two Houses resumed their sessions a week after the end of the country's Nov. 8 general election.
The sessions of the two Houses will be followed by that of the Union Parliament comprising both Houses later later on the day.
Over 30 remaining bills are to complete discussion at the parliament sessions before Jan. 30, 2016 when the present term of the legislative body ends and a new parliament is to be produced through the just-ended election.
The current parliament, which was elected through 2010 general election, began its term in 2011 and will end on Jan. 30, 2016. Enditem
