FIA and F1 honor victims of Paris attacks at Brazilian GP

The International Automobile Federation and Formula One drivers paid tribute to the victims of the coordinated attacks in Paris before the start of the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix here on Sunday.

   The attacks that happened Friday night in Paris have left more than 120 people dead.

   "The FIA and its 236 affiliated members in more than 140 countries globally share the grief of the families of the victims in the terrorist attacks which occurred in Paris, one of the FIA's historic headquarters," said the FIA on its website.

   "The whole FIA community expresses its solidarity to all those affected by this insufferable tragedy."

   At the Brazilian GP, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes eventually beat teammate Lewis Hamilton to win his consecutive race and clinch second place in the season standings with one race to run in Abu Dhabi.

   Before the race, the F1 drivers also wore black armbands on their pre-race parade "as a sign of mourning and tribute to the victims of the Paris tragedy and as a gesture of solidarity with their families and loved ones," an FIA statement said.

   In addition, a French flag decorated with a black ribbon was carried on the truck used during the drivers' parade. The same flag was displayed on the world television feed, as will 13.11.2015, the date of the tragedy.

   At the start line, Paris-based Romain Grosjean held a French flag alongside other F1 drivers, Interlagos fell silent.

   Meanwhile, the FIA and F1 also paid tribute to the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims as all the people at the Interlagos Circuit silenced for one minute for the tribute to those who have lost their lives or have been injured in road traffic accidents.  Endi
