Germany vs. Netherlands friendly will not be cancelled

Xinhua, November 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Germany will play the friendly against the Netherlands in Hannover, the German Football Association (DFB) said in an official statement on Sunday.

After the Paris attacks the friendly between Germany and the Netherlands was in doubt until Sunday. However, the "Nationalmannschaft" agreed unanimously to play the match as a sign against terrorism.

"The message is clear, we will not let ourselves be intimidated by terrorism. The team will play the test match against the Netherlands despite the bad experiences a few days after the attacks in Paris," DFB vice president Reinhard Rauball said.

On Friday, Germany lost 2-0 to France in a friendly. However, the result became a side issue, as both national teams were in close proximity of the terror attacks in Paris. Thus, both teams had to spend the night in the Stade de France due to security reasons.

"We want to set a sign as a team. We will play for the French people and the families of the victims. The entire team is still severely affected. Yet, we all know how important it is to set a sign for our values and culture," DFB manager Oliver Bierhoff said.

Germany will encounter the Netherlands for a friendly in Hannover on Tuesday.  Endi
