Belgian interior minister visits Paris to discuss security with French counterpart

Xinhua, November 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Belgian interior minister Jan Jambon is visiting Paris today to discuss security measures with his French counterpart Bernard Cazeneuve in the wake of the Paris attacks.

In an interview with Antwerp local broadcaster channel ATV, Jambon said the meeting had been called to discuss security measures and border controls.

Three Belgians were among the 129 killed in the co-ordinated attacks in the French capital on Friday night, which also left 352 people injured, 99 critically.

Five people were arrested on Saturday in the Brussels district of Molenbeek, the town's mayor Francoise Schepmans told Belgian broadcaster RTBF, up from the three already announced by the country's Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Schepmans added that it was "a reality" that Molenbeek had been a "fertile ground for violent radicalization."

Meanwhile, the annual King's Festival ceremony took place as normal in Brussels on Sunday, with a reinforced police presence around members of the Belgian royal family and federal government, RTBF added.

Members of the royal family attending the Te Deum mass included King Albert, Queen Paola, Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz. Endit
