Singaporean leaders convey condolences to French counterparts on Paris attacks

Singaporean leaders conveyed condolences to their French counterparts on the terrorist attacks in Paris, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Saturday.

Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam wrote to French President François Hollande, saying he was saddened to hear the multiple terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.

President Tan extended the deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones on behalf of the people of Singapore. "Singapore stands in solidarity with the French people in this difficult time," said President Tan in the letter.

Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan wrote to his French counterpart Laurent Fabius, conveying the deepest condolences and sympathies to the French people and the families and loved ones of the victims.

Vivian Balakrishnan said he was deeply horrified to learn of the brutal terrorist attacks in Paris, and stressed that Singapore supports France's efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed his concern on the attacks in Paris earlier in the day, saying "an attack like this is an attack on our shared humanity" in his Facebook post.

Singapore has raised alert level and stepped up security measures and border checks in the wake of the Paris attacks which killed at least 120 Friday, announced the country's Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Saturday. Endit
