Hungary shocked, horrified by Paris carnage: president

Xinhua, November 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hungary deeply condemned terrorism and is disgusted with all factions obsessed with violence, Hungarian President Janos Ader wrote in a telegram to French President Francois Hollande on Saturday, following the Friday night terrorist attacks in Paris.

Ader said he was deeply shocked and sent his sympathies in the name of all Hungarians to the families of the victims.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban sent condolences to all the people of France, voicing the solidarity of the Hungarians during these trying times.

The Hungarian government's national security committee held a special meeting on Saturday attended by the prime minister, and ordered heightened security including an increased police presence in public places and at important facilities such as the airports and the Paks nuclear power plant.

Gyorgy Bakondi, the prime minister's chief national security advisor announced that there would be tighter border controls, too, although Hungary had no information regarding any concrete threat.

Bakondi noted that other European Union countries were taking similar measures. Although the Paris death toll has been rising steadily, authorities had no knowledge of any Hungarians being among the victims. Endit
