Morocco arrests IS member after Paris terror attacks

Xinhua, November 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Morocco's security services arrested an Islamic State (IS) member in the city of Nador, just a few miles away from Spain, the Interior Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

The suspect, who was planning to join the rank of IS, was plotting to carry out a terrorist operation in Morocco or in a church in Europe, the ministry said in a brief statement.

Morocco has increased the alert level of its security forces following Paris terrorist attacks, local media reported.

Citing sources in the interior ministry, the Moroccan website Alyaoum 24 said that high level security meetings were held after the attacks in France, giving firm instructions to different security services to take all preventive measures necessary to face potential terrorist threats.

The same source also revealed that measures have been taken in sensitive sites in the country, and plans for worst case scenarios are adopted.

The series of bloody terror attacks hitting seven different locations in and around Paris Friday night killed at least 120 people and constituted the worst violent carnage in France since World War II.

French President Francois Hollande has declared a nationwide state of emergency and announced the close of borders, saying the attackers will be fought "without mercy." Endit
