Afghan security forces kill insurgents in cleanup operations

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several insurgents were killed and injured as the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) carried out cleanup operations since early Thursday, the Defense Ministry said Friday morning.

"Over the past 24 hours, several terrorists were killed and injured as a result of joint cleanup operations conducted by ANSF across the country," the ministry said in a statement, without disclosing the exact number of casualties.

Two armed insurgents were captured by the joint forces, according to the statement.

The raids were lunched in three of the country's 34 provinces and the ANSF also found and seized weapons, in addition to defusing dozens of roadside bombs and landmines, the statement added.

"A total of 10 Afghan National Army personnel were martyred during the above operations and as a result of separate attacks over the same period," the statement confirmed.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as Taliban militants have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the mountainous Central Asian country. Endit
