Argentina-Brazil World Cup qualifier postponed by rain

Xinhua, November 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Argentina's home World Cup qualifier against Brazil was postponed on Thursday due to heavy rain that left the pitch submerged under inches of water.

Match officials called the game off less than an hour before kickoff at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires.

"There's no way the game can go on," assistant Brazil coach Gilmar Rinaldi told reporters. "Apart from the pitch being under water, the surrounding streets are flooded meaning fans can't get to the stadium."

South American football's governing body CONMEBOL said that match had been rescheduled to 9pm Friday at the same venue.

Rinaldi said Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Peru in Salvador on Tuesday would not be affected by the change.  Endi
