Myanmar vice president re-wins as parliament representative in election

Myanmar Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham has re-won as a representative to the House of Representative, according to the update election result released by the Union Election Commission Thursday morning.

Representing the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), Sai Mauk Kham ran the election in Lashio township constituency, Shan state.

Another Vice President U Nyan Tun, who competed in Zeegon, Bago region constituency representing the same party, also re-won a seat of the House of Representatives.

According to Thursday morning's update election result, the National League for Democracy (NLD), has so far secured a total of 587 parliamentary seats at three levels in the next term of parliament.

Of the 587 seats out of a total of 706 so far occupied by the NLD, 196 are in the House of Representatives (Lower House), 77 in the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and 314 in the regional or state parliament.

Of the 66 seats taken by the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), 23 are in the House of Representatives, four in the House of Nationalities and 39 in the regional or state parliament.

The remaining parliamentary seats go to some ethnic parties and two independents. Of the ethnic parties, Shan National League for Democracy (SNLD) shares the most with 26.

The commission has so far announced 706 elected parliament representatives. Of them, 243 are elected to the Houses of Representatives, 83 to the House of Nationalities and 380 to the regional or state parliament.

There is a total of 1,121 seats at three levels of the parliament.

The election result will continue to be released by the election commission on a daily basis. Endit
