Nearly 1.8 tonnes of drugs netted in China-Vietnam anti-drug sweep

Nearly 1.8 tonnes of drugs and over 990 suspects have been netted in a joint three-month anti-drug campaign by China and Vietnam, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region police said Thursday.

The initiative, the second of its kind between the two countries, ran from September till November.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the borders between Vietnam and China are one of busiest drug routes, with huge amounts of heroin and synthetic drugs passing through the area.

Qiu Yucheng of the regional public security department said professional anti-drug teams have been set up in all counties and cities along the borders in Guangxi and counter-terrorism efforts have also been incorporated into daily work.

Both sides strengthened their cooperation in investigating drug-related cases, sharing intelligence and apprehending suspects.

A joint campaign between China and Vietnam last year saw more than 3,800 suspects being arrested and over 900 kilograms of drugs being seized by the police on both sides of the borders. Endit
