China's sailing city Qingdao was honored the outstanding contribution award Wednesday by International Sailing Federation (ISAF) on its annual meeting.

Qingdao, a coastal city located in east China's Shandong Province, is the cradle of water sports in the country as well as the birthplace of China's modern sailing.

Qingdao had held many top sailing events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Volvo Ocean Race, and Clipper Round the World Race.

China's No. 1 sailor Guo Chuan, a Qingdao native, has set the first non-stop sailing world record across Arctic Ocean.

Song Kun, a 32-year-old lady from Qingdao, became the first Chinese woman to sail around the world.

ISAF president Carlo Croce hailed Qingdao as the leading city of sailing sports in Asia.  Endi
