A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official met with a group of lawmakers from the Republic of Korea Wednesday in Beijing and called for closer exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, hailed the sound development of ties between the two countries featuring progress in political trust, economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

"China is willing to work with the ROK to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the heads of the two countries, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in all areas." Liu said.

He also called for maintaining high-level contacts between the CPC and political parties of the ROK and making good use of the mechanism of party-to-party policy dialogue to boost the relationship between the two countries.

During the meeting, Liu briefed the lawmakers on the recently-concluded Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, at which the Chinese party stressed higher level opening up. Liu said this will provide more development opportunities for all countries. Endi
