Xinhua, November 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Since June 2015, the Macedonian ministry of the interior has issued certificates to 234,962 migrants seeking asylum, the Macedonian International News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours alone, a total of 4,444 registration papers were issued by the country's interior ministry to migrants, including 2,324 men, 805 women and 1,315 children.

The majority of the migrants are Syrians (148,065), Afghans (50,341), and Iraqis (18,465).

Ongoing violence in Iraq and Syria and "worsening conditions" for Syrian refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon are driving people to seek asylum in Europe, according to UN human rights agency spokeswoman Melissa Fleming. Endit
