Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi asks for dialogue with key ruling figures

Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday called for a meeting with President U Thein Sein, Parliament Speaker U Shwe Mann and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing for holding dialogue next week.

In her separate letters to the three ruling figures, Suu Kyi urged the dialogue to be held on the basis of national reconciliation, according to sources with the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD).

She said the dialogue is also aimed at to calmly and peacefully satisfy the desire of the people expressed through Sunday's general election.

Suu Kyi won the general election and will be a representative to the House of Representatives (Lower House) of the next parliament.

According to the election result announced by the Union Election Commission earlier Wednesday, 394 candidates have been elected as representatives at three levels of parliament, with 245 of them from the NLD.

Of the 394 representatives, 149 are elected to the Lower House, 33 to the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and 212 to the Region or State Parliament.

Based on the result, the NLD has secured 134 seats in the House of Representatives, 29 in the House of Nationalities and 182 in the Region or State Parliament, while the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party has eight, two and 19, respectively, at the three levels of parliament. Endit
