At least 22 people were killed and 62 others wounded on Tuesday when rebels fired two improvised rockets on residential areas in the coastal city of Latakia, state news agency SANA reported.

The rockets slammed into the residential neighborhood Mazraa near the Latakia University, said SANA, as the state-run TV aired footages of the targeted sites with a big deal of destruction caused by the rockets. (Syria-Rockets)

PARIS -- Two men were killed and another was wounded around Monday midnight in a shooting in the southern French city of Marseille, local media reported on Tuesday.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire at four men who sat in a car in a tunnel near the old port of Marseille before escaping with their own vehicle that was later found burned down. (France-Shooting)

COLOMBO -- Over 200 minority Tamil prisoners, including former Tamil Tiger rebels, re-started a hunger strike in jails across Sri Lanka on Tuesday for their immediate release.

BERLIN -- Helmut Schmidt, who served as Chancellor of West Germany from 1974 to 1982, died at age of 96 at his home in Hamburg, German media reported on Tuesday.

JERUSALEM -- Two Palestinians were seriously injured and one Israeli guard was moderately wounded in two attacks that took place almost simultaneously in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the Israeli police said.

The first attack occurred at the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Pisgat Ze'ev, when two 13 year-olds stabbed an Israeli guard in his upper torso at a Jerusalem light rail station, wounding him moderately. (Palestine-Israel) Endi
