Slovenian gov't officials meet in anticipation of huge refugee flow

Xinhua, November 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Slovenian government convened a session on Monday to discuss the current refugee situations and measures to be taken to deal with the crisis, anticipating a huge refugee surge in the coming days, according to local media.

Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec told the session that a surge of 20,000 to 30,000 migrants is expected to arrive to the country in the coming days, by Thursday at the latest, saying the Slovenian government needs to take stock of the situation and prepare measures for normal handling of the situation.

The foreign minister would not disclose what measures the government could take at its session, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) said. It is unclear if it will weigh up the option of erecting a fence to manage the flow.

"We're responsible for ensuring that everything proceeds in a way which provides for the safety of migrants and citizens," the minister was quoted by STA. Enditem
