9 Evergrande players join Team China for World Cup tie

Xinhua, November 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nine players from the Chinese Super League-winning team Guangzhou Evergrande arrived here on Sunday to prepare for China's World Cup qualifier against Bhutan.

They just returned from a 0-0 away draw with the United Arab Emirates' al-Ahli in the AFC Champions League final on Saturday. The second leg is set for Nov. 21.

The Chinese team will also take on Hong Kong on Nov. 17 after the Bhutan game in the capital of the Hunan province on Thursday.

"Local fans will cheer for Hunan-born Huang Bowen," said Li Zhong, head of a local soccer fans association.

Like the other eight Evergrande players, Huang will have to play four games in 15 days.

China, having played one game less, ranks third in the World Cup qualifying group, after Qatar and Hong Kong.  Endi
