Indian PM may reshuffle cabinet in wake of BJP's defeat in key state polls

Xinhua, November 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may soon reshuffle his Cabinet of Ministers, sources said Monday.

The reshuffle will be in the wake of the massive defeat of his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the assembly polls in the eastern state of Bihar, they said.

"Modi is likely to sack ministers who have failed to perform and may shunt those Ministers who have created troubles for the party by raking in communal issues," the sources said.

BJP chief Amit Shah and Modi will take a final call on the Ministers to be dropped from the Cabinet and those to be given less important portfolios before the winter session of Parliament, they added.

The BJP was decimated in the assembly polls in Bihar, in what was perceived by many as a referendum on Modi's economic program, though the party has denied the suggestion. Endit
