Urgent: Kerry recommends Obama reject controversial Keystone XL pipeline: reports

Xinhua, November 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has recommended that the Obama administration should reject the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project that would bring Canada's oil sands to refineries in the United States, local media reported on Friday.

Kerry has concluded the controversial project is not in the country's national security interest, U.S. Cable News Network (CNN) cited senior administration officials as saying.

Kerry will meet with President Barack Obama at the White House this morning, after which Obama is expected to deliver a statement on the controversial pipeline.

Obama is expected to cite the urgency of climate change as a key reason to reject the Keystone XL pipeline, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing several people familiar with the matter. Enditem
