Taiwan's disease control agency on Friday warned of the rebound of dengue fever as warm weather is likely to linger for the next few days.
The agency urged the public to clear up their residences and eradicate breeding sites of mosquitoes as high temperatures ares conducive to breeding, said a statement issued on its website.
According to the weather agency, daytime highs were above 30 degrees Celsius in most parts of the island on Friday and warm weather may last through Sunday.
Since May 1, Taiwan has recorded 30,902 dengue fever cases, with 303 new cases on Thursday.
Southern Taiwan cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung reported the majority of cases, which were 22,056 and 8,297 cases respectively.
The situation has been under control in Tainan with a gradual reduction of new cases, while in Kaohsiung the number is still on the rise.
The epidemic has been the worst in years though the island is hit by the disease frequently. A total of 28,722 patients have recovered, while 20 remain in intensive care units at hospitals.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne, potentially fatal disease that mainly affects people in tropical and subtropical regions, causing fever, nausea and muscle and joint aches.
