Mayor of south China city found dead in river

Xiao Wensun, mayor of Liuzhou city in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has been found dead in a river, according to local police.

Initial investigation found that he was drowned after falling into the Liujiang river around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The river was fenced by guardrail more than one meter tall. A witness saw Xiao climbing over the rail and jumping into water, said police.

After he was rescued, Xiao was sent to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Xiao Wensun, born in 1964, was from east China's Jiangxi province. He became the mayor of Liuzhou in 2013. Endi
