Myanmar opposition leader vows to give priority to national reconciliation work if wins election

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi vowed to give priority to national reconciliation work and peace efforts if winning the general election set for Nov. 8.

Speaking at a press conference at her residence three days before of the election, Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) said, if winning the election and forming the government, the new government will follow the previous government's peace process while accepting the part it deserves to be accepted and amending the part deemed as necessary to be changed without bearing grudge.

Regarding the military, she said the new government will cooperate with the armed forces to win unity, dealing with them transparently and coordinating with them stage by stage in changing what should be changed.

Relating to foreign relations, she said Myanmar has been friendly with all nations in the world since independence, citing the western countries, India, China and remaining Asian countries and adding that the new government will continue to adopt the same approach in its foreign relations.

Noting that Myanmar-China friendly relation are mutually beneficial to both countries, she said her last trip to China is beneficial to the future of the country.

Concerning Myanmar's domestic natural resources, Suu Kyi said it should be handled countrywise in a balanced manner to ensure the resources would benefit the country and make the country prosperous.

The press conference was attended by about 400 local and international media persons.

A total of 6,039 candidates involving 91 political parties and 310 independent runners will compete for more than 1,000 seats at three levels of the parliament in the election, according to the commission's revised figures.

NLD will feed 1,124 candidates to run in the election. Enditem
