Hackers cause Cypriot president to temporarily suspend Facebook account
Xinhua, November 5, 2015 Adjust font size:
Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday said his personal account on Facebook had been discontinued due to hacking attack.
He made the announcement on Twitter, saying the measure was taken for security reasons and will be temporary.
However, Cypriot media reported that hackers had attempted to take control of the president's account.
Police have started an investigation and the chief of police visited the presidential palace.
Anastasiades uses his Twitter account to make brief announcements and his Facebook account to publicize major statements or decisions of the government.
Hackers had in the past unsuccessfully tried to take control of the account of a minister. Anonymous also had tried to take control the official site of the electoral commission during elections. Endit
