Hollande's popularity hits new record low: survey

Xinhua, November 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

The approval ratings of French President Francois Hollande hit a new record low in persistent public disenchantment on his poor record on the economy, according to a survey released on Thursday.

In its monthly survey for the weekly Le Figaro magazine, TNS Sofres showed that the Socialist leader received 15 percent of positive opinions, down one percentage point from October poll, the worst score for the head of state since December 2014.

The poll also found that 82 percent of respondents said they don't have confidence in Hollande to fix the country's problems.

After a short honeymoon at the Elysee Palace in 2012, Hollande has been losing backing even among disillusioned left-wing voters following his broken promises to reverse the rise in unemployment and controversial reforms that triggered street protests.

Cornered by rising critics over failure to bring down rampant jobless claims, to further promote fragile growth and reach healthy finances, Hollande, France's most unpopular head of state, has repeatedly asked the French people to judge him on his long-term bid to address the country's economic, financial and social troubles.

TNS-Sofres conducted its poll between October 29 and November 2 questioning 1,000 people in face-to-face interviews. Endit
