Shakhtar crushes Malmo 4-0 in UEFA Champions League

Xinhua, November 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk secured an easy 4-0 victory over Sweden's Malmo during the fourth Champions League group stage match at the Lvov Arena stadium on Tuesday night.

The Ukrainian side, which was on a three-game losing streak in Europe after opening their Group A campaign, looked highly motivated -- it grabbed control early on and rarely ceded it to their guests.

Shakhtar opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Olexandr Gladkiy finished off the rebound after Malmo's goalkeeper Johan Wiland had parried his prior shot.

On 48 minutes, Dario Srna doubled the lead, hitting the net through a penalty kick, and seven minutes later Eduardo widened the gap to 3-0 with a powerful header.

The 73rd minute saw midfielder Alex Teixeira seal the win for Shakhtar at 4-0.

In other match of the Group A, Real Madrid had earned a win over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to stay atop of the group with 10 points. PSG is second with 7 points.

Shakhtar and Malmo, both with 3 points on the board, are set to fight for the third place, which gives the right to compete in UEFA Europa League.  Endi
