Germany's benchmark DAX index little changed

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Tuesday nearly closed flat.

The German auto maker Volkswagen on Tuesday said some than 800,000 vehicles were involved in carbon dioxide emission problems, which weighed on the confidence of investors here. However, due to the strong performance of the stock markets in the United States, the blue-chip DAX index managed to rise by 0.48 points and closed at 10,951.15 points, according to local analysts.

K+S Aktiengesellschaft, a standard and speciality fertilizers supplier, gained 4.35 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG advanced by 2.11 percent. SAP SE rose b y1.51 percent. The utilities company RWE AG St climbed by 1.48 percent and BASF SE went up by 1.14 percent.

The semiconductor company Infineon Technologies AG lost 3.63 percent. Deutsche Boerse AG plunged by 2.09 percent. Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. slipped by 1.53 percent. Volkswagen AG Vz slid by 1.51 percent. Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft, a skin care company, went down by 1.16 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.2 billion euros (around 3.53 billion U.S. dollars ). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 254.98 million euros (around 281.11 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
