Bangladesh opposition spokesman jailed after surrender in court

Bangladesh's largest opposition party spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been sent to prison after he surrendered before a court here on Tuesday evening.

Bangladesh's apex court Monday asked the largest opposition party spokesman to surrender before a lower court by Tuesday in three cases of instigating violence in recent years.

The apex court on Oct. 6 extended till Nov. 2 its bail order for the acting secretary general of ex-prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Alamgir got released on bail from detention in jail on July 14.

Since then his bail was extended several times on health ground in the cases. Enditem
