Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.89 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks rose 198.39 points, or 0.89 percent, to close on Tuesday at 22,568.43.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,560.17 and 22,697.00. Turnover totaled 64.56 billion HK dollars (8.30 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index moved up 43.09 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 10,283.42 points.

Four sub-indices all gained ground, with the Commerce and Industry sub-index rising the most by 1.31 percent, followed by the Finance 0.69 percent, the Utilities 0.52 percent and the Properties 0.33 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 0.3 percent to 60.50 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, added 1.8 percent to close at 28.90 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX gained 0.5 percent to 199.80 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, went up 0.4 percent to 92.80 HK dollars. China Unicom, another Chinese telecom giant, climbed 0.5 percent to 9.45 HK dollars.

Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, fell 0.8 percent to 99.75 HK dollars. Henderson Land increased 1.1 percent to 49.00 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks ended mixed. Bank of China went down 0.3 percent to 3.56 HK dollars. China Construction Bank gained 0.4 percent to 5.57 HK dollars. Bank of Communication moved up 0.4 percent at 5.67 HK dollars. ICBC increased 0.2 percent to 4.85 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec moved up 1.4 percent to 5.61 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, rose 0.2 percent to 6.00 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar = 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
