Five soldiers killed during separate attacks in Afghanistan

About five Afghan army personnel have been killed in separate attacks within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Monday morning.

"Several terrorists had been killed and wounded after Afghan National Security Forces launched joint cleanup operations across the country over the past 24 hours. While five Afghan army personnel martyred during the same period," the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan army specialists found and defused 56 rounds of roadside bombs and landmines since early Sunday, the statement added.

Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as Taliban militants have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the mountainous Central Asian country. Enditem
