Brazilian Lincoln learns lesson for FIFA U-17 World Cup

Xinhua, November 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

For a 16-year-old player, learning is a continuous work, especially if he has already debuted in the local first division under the direction of legendary coaches such as Luiz Felipe Scolari or if he is captain of the U-17 Brazilian national team, the official website of U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 said on Sunday.

The most recent lesson of Lincoln occurred in Chile 2015. Brazil was winning 2-0 against Guinea in the last game of the group's phase, but the captain of the team lost his mind and smacked a rival just at the end of the first half. He was expelled.

Despite Brazil defeated New Zealand 1-0, Lincoln should have been nervous during the Round of 16 game. "It was horrible to see it from outside," said Lincoln cited by U-17 World Cup official website.

"I wanted to jump into the field, because no matter how loud I would yell, there was nothing I could have done. It was frustrating and I hope this will not happen again," added Lincoln.

The young Brazilian player, who began his career at Porto Alegre's Gremio, just as Ronaldinho, said he would not have accepted a defeat against New Zealand. "I would have felt responsible. As captain of the team, cool heads are always necessary. I should have lead by example," he said.

He admitted he did not expect to be named captain of the team but then he understood what this meant. "I always knew my responsibility, so now I can tell I learned the lesson. This will be useful for the rest of my life. I will never react before an aggression no matter how angry I am," he said.

At 16 Lincoln signed his first contract with a first division team. He has been compared with Ronaldinho for his style and for playing in the same team.

"He (Ronaldinho) is my role model. I have seen his videos and I am inspired by them. Everybody in the team has told me he never stopped being humble, even when he became a famous player. This is also an example for me," added Lincoln.

This year, Lincoln debuted in first division and scored his first goal in April. "Before coming to the U-17 South American tournament, I promised my mom I would become champion and I kept my word. Now I promised her the same," said the Brazilian star.

"When I am not playing soccer, I like to be with my family. We gather and make barbecues, we dance samba and we have fun. I play the drum, but I do not sing," he said. Endi
