Myanmar vows to ensure stability, peace during election

Xinhua, October 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar authorities have vowed to ensure stability and peace during the election period following a knife attack on members of the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD).

According to an official report Saturday, three NLD members, including a candidate of the party, were attacked and injured by local people in Yangon's Thakayta township when the party was campaigning for the Nov. 8 election.

The trio were all hospitalized, the report said, adding that three assailants were detained.

Campaign rallies, organized by different parties, have intensified in the run-up to the general election.

Myanmar will hold the vote on Nov. 8 contested by some 6,040 candidates from 91 political parties and 310 independent runners. Enditem
