Germany's benchmark DAX index closes up

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday went up by nearly 50 points and closed at 10,850.14 points.

The blue-chip index climbed by 49.3 points, or 0.46 percent on Friday. It added nearly 12 percent during the month of October.

The utilities company RWE AG St rose markedly by 5.06 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG advanced by 2.64 percent. Merck KGaA, a leading pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, added 2.28 percent. Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a health care company, and ThyssenKrupp AG each went up by 1.74 percent and 1.61 percent.

Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz, which operates in three areas including laundry and home care, beauty care and adhesive technologies, lost 1.5 percent. Deutsche Boerse AG declined by 1.06 percent and adidas AG slipped by 0.88 percent. Vonovia SE, a real estate company, slid by 0.78 percent and Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft, a personal care company plunged by 0.52 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.43 billion euros (around 3.77 billion U.S. dollars). Bayer AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 251.23 million euros. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollars). Endit
