Tokyo shares ended the trading Wednesday higher on upbeat domestic earnings reports but sentiment here was also weighed by U.S. monetary policy decision due later the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped up 125.98 points, or 0.67 percent, from Tuesday at 18,903.02.
The turnover was about 2,164.4 billion yen (about 17.98 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese stocks retreated on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shedding 1.72 percent to close at 3,375.20 points.
The smaller Shenzhen index fell 2.25 percent to close at 11,494.35 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, plummeted 3.07 percent to end at 2,485.24 points.
Total turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses stood at 916.44 billion yuan (144.156 billion U.S. dollars), down from 980 trillion yuan the previous trading day.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks fell 186.16 points, or 0.8 percent, to close on Wednesday at 22,956.57 points.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,923.66 and 23,120.25. Turnover totaled 61.01 billion HK dollars (7.87 billion U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 14.79 points, or 1.04 percent to close at 1,409.26 points.
Some 11.13 billion shares worth 51.83 billion baht (about 1.46 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 12.02 points, or 0.39 percent, to close at 3,040.51.
A total of 1.02 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 825.7 million Singapore dollars (591.6 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,686.51, down 10.44 points or 0.62 percent, and the Emas was at 11,671.67, down 59.70 points or 0.51 percent.
Turnover increased to 2.15 billion shares valued at 2.05 billion ringgit Malaysia(479.31 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.89 billion shares valued at 1.88 billion ringgit Malaysia(440.38 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 65.32 points, or 1.40 percent, to a level of 4,608.74 on Wednesday.
Some 247,507 transactions were booked, involving 6.64 billion shares worth 5.72 trillion rupiah (about 419.74 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 81.22 points on Wednesday, down 0.08 points or 0.1 percent against the previous trading session.
A total of over 34.028 million shares worth some 415.480 billion Vietnamese dong (some 19.06 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 41.65 percent in volume and 20.61 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 596.24 points on Wednesday, down 2.2 points, or 0.37 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 119.718 million shares worth 2.308 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (105.45 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 609.68 points, down 1.89 points, or 0.31 percent.
A total of 42.883 million shares worth 966.01 billion VND (44.13 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Wednesday.
