Blind man sets new Guinness world record driving truck at 193 km/h

Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Daredevil blind man Mike Newman has set a new world record by driving a 5.5-tonne truck at 193 km/h.

It was the seventh world record set by Newman to be acknowledged by the famous Guinness World Records.

The 53-year-old's latest speed record was set Monday at an airfield at York in Northern England. He described the truck drive as his biggest challenge so far.

Newman's previous records have seen him flying a plane, driving a motorbike at 143 km/h, driving a boat at 150 km/h and in August, 2014 driving a car at over 322 km/h.

The charity Speed of Sight, who organized the record breaking feats for Newman said it makes him the only person other than the famous Bluebird driver Donald Campbell to hold both land and water records in the same year.

Speed of Sight director John Galloway said: "Newman developed his own design of car with two steering wheels as well as dual pedals so that people of any ability can operate the vehicle next to a professional trained instructor to keep them safe at all times." Endit
