Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday expressed the country's readiness to implement measures for refugee management as agreed in a joint EU action plan as an EU candidate country during a summit held in Brussels on refugee crisis.
The summit is aimed at creating a cross-border regional approach to the crisis management, through increased coordination and consultation among countries, in order to avoid a looming humanitarian disaster along the transit route, according to Albanian Daily News.
As winter comes, Albania is expected to become the main route,Syrian refugees may pass from Greek to Albania, and a place has been designated for them in Korca, southeast of Albania.
The former military ward in Albania's southeastern city of Bilisht will serve as a camp for them, and a building abandoned for years is expected to offer shelter for at least 500 people, according to Top Channel, Albania's national commercial TV station.
Following the request of Albanian Interior Ministry for the location of camps for these refugees, local authorities have taken the first measures and will proceed for the improvement of infrastructure. Endi
