Tokyo shares gained during the morning session Monday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index recovering the 19,000 line owing to buying spurred by China's latest monetary easing and interest rate cut by its central bank.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 227.43 points, or 1.21 percent, from Friday to 19,052.73, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 18.69 points, or 1.21 percent, to 1,566.53.
