Xinhua, October 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Days after pursuing the perpetrators who killed Mayor Dario Otaza and his son Daryl, the Philippine Army encountered the suspects in south Philippine province of Agusan del Norte on Friday, local authorities said on Saturday.

According to the military, they learned from the civilians in the area that the New People's Army (NPA) responsible for the brutal killing are hiding inside their community.

This prompted the troops to proceed into the area and check the veracity of the information. But they were indiscriminately fired upon by the NPA upon arrival.

The encounter occurred at around 6:45 a.m. on Friday at the outskirt of Sitio Afga, Lower Olave, Buenavista of Agusan del Norte province.
