Hamburg secure late 1-0 win over Hoffenheim in German Bundesliga

Xinhua, October 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pierre-Michel Lasogga's late winner secured Hamburg a 1-0 victory over ten-man Hoffenheim at the opener of the 10th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

The "HSV" dominated the match for most of the time but failed to make the most of their chances against Hoffenheim. They had to wait until two minutes from time to break the deadlock through Lasogga, who ended Hamburg's three-game winning drought.

Hamburg dictated the pace from the kick off to work out a number of promising chances but Hoffenheim's goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was on guard to deny Michael Gregoritsch and Pierre-Michel Lasogga the breakthrough. Uninspired Hoffenheim, by contrast, remained unable to threat Hamburg's defence. As a result, both sides took a goalless draw into the break.

Hosts Hoffenheim ensured the first highlight of the second half as Ermin Bicakcic saw his second yellow card following a foul play to Sven Schipplock at the 68th minute.

Despite Hamburg's advantage Hoffenheim nearly flabbergasted the visitors against the run of the game but goalkeeper Rene Adler denied Mark Uth and Jeremy Toljan. The visitors finally overcame Hoffenheim's bulwark in the dying minutes of the game as Sven Schipplock's build up play and square pass allowed Pierre-Michel Lasogga to tap home at the far post.

With the result, Hamburg earn their first win from the last three games to jump on the 9th place whereas Hoffenheim stay on the penultimate position of the standings after suffering the sixth loss of the campaign.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: front runners and title holders Bayern Munich encounter Cologne, Leverkusen see Stuttgart, Hannover face Frankfurt, Mainz meet Bremen, newly promoted Darmstadt clash with Wolfsburg and Berlin visit newly promoted Ingolstadt. Endit
